What more can any of us ask for but to be created by the very thing we feel compelled to create?
Mark Nepo, The River of Light
This question from Mark Nepo gets at the very heart of the nexus of awakening and the creative process. Poetry is humankind’s first literature, starting with the ancient oral traditions before systems of writing helped us to record what we experienced and felt. The music of poetry, and its heavily imagistic and sensory language both awaken and are awakened by us when we find words that speak to and from our hearts. We can awaken to and through writing poetry because it requires us to be fully embodied and aware of ourselves and the world we live in.
I’m inviting you to join me in a six week course in Poetry Awakening, a combination of Trillium dharma and poetry, and reading and writing exercises to help you deepen both your creativity and your awakening process. The course will include Zoom sessions, a Google discussion group, reading and writing assignments, and personal feedback on your work. No experience in poetry is required, just an open heart and willingness to experiment putting it into words.
